I teach Italian especially to English speakers (but not only) since I arrived in the United States. First I started teaching children and then adults in the state of Virginia. I received a Master´s Degree in Teaching Italian as Foreign Language from the prestigious University for Foreigners of Perugia (Italy); and I am also Certified in Teaching of Italian as a Foreign Language (DILS-LI) by the same University. The Master and the Certification give me a qualification in language teaching related to the teaching of Italian L2 which is evaluated in competitions, selections and job interviews both in Italy and abroad. I particularly like to teach for levels A1-B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). I enjoy tackling the challenges in education in our hyperconnected era, for this reason, I am also certified as a “Tutor Online” by UNISTRAPG. My research interests are focused on Italian Diasporas.
I am deeply convinced that we all can learn a new language, regardless of the age. We only need to get rid of perfectionism, especially during the first stages of learning. I really love to learn languages, so in my life I learned five languages: Italian, Spanish, English, French and Portuguese (and German reading). My “recipe” to learn Italian just requires some few “ingredients”: a smile, an adventurous spirit, and kindness to ourselves and to others.
I bring to the class my experience of more than thirty years as Professor in journalism, social communication and mass media in Universities of Argentina and Spain. In the US, today I am a bilingual radio-journalist, and I also work as translator and editor. As I really like the work on the microphone, I also record my voice for announcements and programs, particularly concerning topics of culture, cinema and global music.
As my father Livio is from Treviso (Veneto), I love prosecco; and as my mother Ambra is from Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige), my favorite South Tyrol food is speck. I go crazy about ice cream and coffee, and I love cooking, painting, cycling, writing poetry, traveling the world and dancing tango. A presto!! ©Cristina Baccin

My passion to teach and social justice also took me to other diverse learning environments and students, such as: illiterate adults, low-income children, rural communities, inmates, community organizers and human rights leaders.
Sono insegnante di italiano da quando sono arrivata negli Stati Uniti. Ho cominciato a insegnare a bambini e poi ad adulti nello stato di Virginia. Ho ottenuto il Master in Didattica dell’italiano Lingua Non Materna ed anche la Certificazione in Didattica dell’italiano Lingua Non Materna (DILS-LI) dalla prestigiosa Università per Stranieri di Perugia (Italia). Il Master e la Certificazione sono titoli di competenza glottodidattica relativi all’insegnamento dell’italiano come lingua seconda (L2) o lingua straniera (LS) che viene valutato nei concorsi, nelle selezioni e nei colloqui di lavoro sia in Italia che all’estero. Io insegno particolarmente per i Livelli A1-B1 del Quadro comune europeo di riferimento (QCER).
Sono profondamente convinta che tutti noi possiamo imparare una nuova lingua, indipendentemente dall’età. Abbiamo solo bisogno di liberarci del perfezionismo, specialmente durante le prime fasi di apprendimento. La mia passione per imparare lingue mi ha permesso di imparare cinque lingue: italiano, spagnolo, inglese, portoghese (e lettura del tedesco). La mia “ricetta” per imparare l’italiano richiede solo pochi “ingredienti”: un sorriso, uno spirito avventuroso e gentilezza verso noi stesse (o stessi) e verso gli altri.
Porto con me l´esperienza di già più di trent´anni come insegnante, particolarmente all´Università come professoressa di giornalismo, comunicazione sociale e mass media in Argentina e Spagna. Nel New Mexico, oggi faccio la giornalista e conduttrice radiofonica bilingue, lavoro come traduttrice ed editrice. Come mi piace tanto il lavoro al microfono, anche registro la mia voce per annunci e programmi, particolarmente riguardanti argomenti di cultura, cinema e musica.
Come mio papà è di Treviso, mi piace tanto il prosecco; e come mia madre è di Bolzano, qualsiasi piatto con lo speck mi piace. Vado pazza per il gelato e il caffè, e mi piace tanto cucinare, il giardinaggio, andare in bicicletta, viaggiare per il mondo e ballare tango. A presto!!!© Cristina Baccin
