In giro per Roma / Strolling through Rome with Cristina Baccin

Are you longing to travel this summer? Do you want to keep up your Italian language skills while you are at home? Treat yourself with this workshop to review and refresh your Italian and visit Rome virtually with me! Learn, practice, and review your Italian with this new online course starting in July!
Join me for a LIVE ONLINE Zoom ITALIAN Workshop!

Giardino degli aranci, Roma

We will explore and take an online stroll through Rome; we´ll practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Italian. We´ll watch short videos of famous and not so well known places in Rome such as San Pietro, l´Isola Tiberina, il giardino degli Aranci o il Campo dei Fiori (“Pillole di Roma”, Casa delle Lingue). Our sightseeing visits to these sites will allow us to explore both the Italian language and culture: we will practice conversation and exercises in a small group atmosphere (handouts will be provided).

Some words about me:

I teach Italian especially to English speakers (but not only) in the United States since 2007. First I started teaching children and then adults in the state of Virginia. I received a Master´s Degree in Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language from the prestigious University for Foreigners of Perugia (Italy); and I am also Certified in Teaching of Italian as a Foreign Language (DILS-LI) by the same University. The Master’s Degree and the Certification give me a qualification in language teaching related to the teaching of Italian L2 which is evaluated in competitions, selections and job interviews both in Italy and abroad. I particularly like to teach for levels A1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

I am deeply convinced that we all can learn a new language, regardless of our age. We only need to get rid ourselves of perfectionism, especially during the first stages of learning. I really love to learn languages, so in my life I learned five languages: Italian, Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese (and German reading). My “recipe” to learning Italian just requires a few “ingredients”: a smile, an adventurous spirit, and kindness to ourselves and others.

I bring to the class my experience of more than thirty years as a Professor in journalism, social communication, and mass media in the Universities of Argentina and Spain. In the US, today I am a bilingual radio-journalist, and I also work as a translator and editor.

As my father Livio was from Treviso (Veneto), I love prosecco; and as my mother Ambra is from Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige), my favorite Southern Tyrol food is speck. I go crazy for gelato and coffee, and I love cooking, gardening, cycling, traveling the world, and dancing tango. A presto!! ©Cristina Baccin

  1. Cristina’s class was a joyful learning experience! It was great fun to “travel” to Rome and learn more about the city. I was pleasantly surprised at how interactive and engaging a Zoom class can be and am looking forward to more! Cristina’s constant enthusiasm and encouragement make her an outstanding teacher!

  2. I have now taken both in person and on-line Italian language classes from Cristina Baccin, she is an excellent instructor in both venues. I appreciate the on-line option as I this allows me access under my present circumstances that otherwise would not have. Thanks you.

  3. This was my first class with Cristina. She is so enthusiastic and encouraging that I felt comfortable trying to put together sentences. Even though we were all in our own “Zooms”, it felt as though we were planning a real trip to Italy. The exercises were well structured for learning, vocabulary, comprehension and a bit of grammar in an interesting and almost painless way.

  4. “Un giro per Roma” was a delightful quarantine activity, and the lessons engaged me most in listening comprehension, mostly because Cristina’s native Italian is crystal clear, melodic and ever cheerful. Not only did I learn a lot of new vocabulary and essential grammar, I made new friends. I am also intrigued by the places we visited and can hardly wait to go there in person. Grazie tante! Marita
